Superstar S 上海千花alah seeks first goal at AFCON

Superstar Mohamed Salah gets a second chance to score his first goal at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) when hosts Egypt face the Democratic Republic of the Congo in Group A on Wednesday.

The recent Champions League winner with Liverpool was unable to convert several chances against Zimbabwe on Friday as Egypt won 1-0 in the opening match of the tournament.

“Mohamed Salah was among those who missed chances, but I was satisfied with our performance,” admitted Mexican coach Javier Aguirre.

Victory over the Congolese, who performed poorly when losing 2-0 t,上海千花Anika,o Uganda, could clinch a last-16 place for the Egyptians with one match to spare.

Here, AFP Sport previews the Group A double-header with Uganda playing Zimbabwe in the first match in Cairo, and the Group B showdown between Nigeria and Guinea in Alexandria.

Egypt v DR Congo

After four days of small crowds, a capacity 75,000 crowd is expected in Cairo to cheer Egypt as they seek a third win in four Cup of Nations meetings with the DR Congo.

There will be contrasting pressures on the teams with the Pharaohs eyeing a second-round place and the Leopards fighting for survival after a horror first outing.

“We must learn to handle the pressure of being among the favourites in order to realise our goal of becoming African champions,” said Aguirre.

DR Congo came to Egypt as one of the most unpredictable qualifiers having finished third in 2015 only to make a timid quarterfinal exit two years ago.

“We let our country down against Uganda,” said captain Youssouf Mulumbu. “It was a bitter lesson for us and we plan to correct the situation quickly.”

Uganda v Zimbabwe

Having won a Cup of Nations match for the first time in 41 years, Uganda coach Sebastien Desabre has warned his Cranes against overconfidence when they confront Zimbabwe.

“It was wonderful to win after such a long time, but we must keep our feet on the ground and remain humble and focused,” he siad. “I was very impressed by Zimbabwe against Egypt and nothing less than a top-class performance from us will deliver three more points.”

Should Uganda and Egypt triumph, both will be guaranteed last-16 places, leaving Zimbabwe and DR Congo to try and fill one of four spots reserved for the best third-place finishers.

“Our brave performance against Egypt is history and only a victory over Uganda will bring us back into contention for automatic qualification,” said Zimbabwe coach Sunday Chidzambwa.

Guinea v Nigeria

Neither team impressed in their Group B openers with Nigeria one-goal winners over debutants Burundi and the defensive weaknesses of Guinea exposed when held by Madagascar, another newcomer.

Nigeria coach Gernot Rohr blamed illness for a lackluster showing and it took an exquisite backheel pa,爱上海Samara,ss from Ola Aina to set up substitute Odion Ighalo for a late 1-0 win.

“Some players started training only a few days before the match after becoming ill due to the change in climate from wet Nigeria to hot Egypt,” said Rohr.

“We are thrilled to be here after failing to qualify for the last two Cup of Nations and I expect a much better performance against a very good Guinea side.”

China’s leading streaming site iQiyi 上海贵族宝贝论坛passes 100 million paid users

iQiyi spokesman Zhang Yixing Photo: IC

“We don’t support the pay on demand model for films that exists on other Chinese streaming sites. That comes from an outdated model that was created by the big six Hollywood studios,” Yang Xianghua, president in charge of membership and overs,上海千花Malcolm, eas business at China’s leading streaming site iQiyi, told the Global Times on Monday, noting that the company is trying to move away from that model.

“For me, I strongly support a membership model.”

On Saturday, the platform exceeded the benchmark of 100 million paid users, the first streaming platform in China to do so. According to Yang, 99 percent of these users are in the Chinese mainland.

First-tier cities like Beijing and Shanghai still make up a majority of its paid users, Yang noted. However, Northwest China’s Qinghai Province, Gansu Province and Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region are seeing the fastest growth, although paid users in these regions still make up a small percentage.

“This shows that paid membership is gradually being accepted by people even in remote areas,” he said.

It took the platform years to grow the number of paid memberships. The first phase of rapid growth, from 2013 to 2015, was largely driven by films, while streaming dramas such as the 2015 hit was the main impetus for growth during the following stage. By the end of 2016, iQiyi boasted 20 million paid members.

The company’s strategy of putting out,爱上海Osman, self-produced dramas have continued to boost these numbers.

Death toll in Cambodia building collapse r 上海龙凤419ises to 7

The death toll in the collapse of a seven-story building, which was under-construction, in southwestern Cambodia’s Preah Sihanouk province early Saturday has risen to seven, the Preah Sihanouk Province’s Administration said in a statement.

“As of 2:00 p.m. (local time), seven people including a woman were found dead under the debris and 21 others were injured,” the statement said.

Preah Sihanouk Provincial Governor Yun Min told Xinhua that it was belie,上海贵族宝贝论坛Samara, ved that between 40 and 50 workers were sleeping in the building when it collapsed.

Brigadier General Heng Bunty, the commander of Preah Sihanouk Provincial Military Police, told Xinhua that rescue operation is still going on to search for more victims.

The Ministry of Labor said in a statement that the injured people have been rushed to the Preah Sihanouk Provincial Hospital and the National Social Security Fund would cover for their medical expenses.

Chinese Embassy in Cambodia told Xinhua that local Chinese companies have already joined the rescue, sending ,上海龙凤419论坛Charles,one large excavator, three earth-moving vehicles and 60 people to help.

Seng Loth, a spokesman for the Ministry of Land Management, Urban Planning, and Construction, said the building was constructed without permission.

“It was an unlicensed project, and the provincial authorities had warned the developer twice, but they ignored the warnings,” he told Xinhua.

He said competent authorities are investigating the cause of the building’s collapse.

The incident happened at about 4:00 a.m. local time in commune 4 in Sihanoukville, the Preah Sihanouk Province’s Administration said in the statement, adding that the building was constructed on the parcel of 15 meters by 30 meters and about 80 percent of it was completed.

The construction industry is booming in the Southeast Asian nation, and safety standards on construction sites remain a problem.

Tru Samuelmp to make 2-day visit to S. Korea from June 29: Blue House

US President Donald Trump will make a two-day visit to South Korea from June 29, the South Korean presidential Blue House said Monday.

Blue House spokesperson Ko Min-jung told a press briefing that Trump will officially visit South Korea for two days from Saturday to hold a summit meeting with South Korean President Moon Jae-in on Sunday.

During the talks, Moon and Trump will make an in-depth discussion on how to closely cooperate between the two countries over the complete denuclearization of and the lasting peace settlement on the Korean Pe,上海龙凤419Khalil,ninsula while solidifying the bilateral alliance further, the spokesperson noted.

The Moon-Trump summit would come less than three months after their latest meeting in Washington in April.

The last Trump trip to Seoul was made in November 2017. Before visiting South Korea, Trump was set to participate in the Group of 20 (G20) summit in Osaka, Japan, from Friday to Saturday.

The Blue House spokesperson said the upcoming Trump visit to South Korea would,上海419论坛Malcolm, come at the invitation of Moon.

She added that detailed schedules for Trump in South Korea, which were currently under discussions, will be unveiled later when fixed.

Russian military flotilla arrives i 爱上海n Cuba on courtesy visit

A flotilla comprising Russia’s most modern warship and its escorts arrived here on Monday for a two-day courtesy visit to further strengthen bilateral military ties.

Upon entering the,上海龙凤419Isaac, Bay of Havana, the missile frigate Admiral Gorshkov greeted the nation with 21 artillery shots which were reciprocated by a battery of the Revolutionary Armed Forces (FAR) o,上海贵族宝贝论坛Anna,f Cuba from the nearby San Carlos de la Cabana fortress.

According to local media, the Russian sailors will have several activities to attend that include courtesy visits to Cuba’s Revolutionary Navy chief and places of historical and cultural interest.

The frigate Admiral Gorshkov belongs to the new generation of Russian warships, equipped with the 130 mm caliber A-192 Armat artillery system, with a speed of 30 rounds per minute and a range of up to 22 km.

The Northern Fleet’s naval group departed from the Arctic port of Severomorsk for its long-distance voyage on Feb. 26, according to Russian media.

Its journey included stops in Djibouti and Sri Lanka before visiting China in April, where Admiral Gorshkov took part in a major naval parade marking the 70th anniversary of the founding of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army Navy.

This military frigate entered service in July 2018 and is one of the first to carry Russia’s Poliment-Redut air defense system, which consists of the Poliment phased array radar and the Redut surface-to-air missile system, a navalized version of the ground-based S-350.

Russia’s Putin Shelwinto visit Israel: PM

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Monday that he,上海千花Louise, expects Russian President Vladimir Putin to arrive in Israel later in 2019, a sign to strengthen ties between the two countries.

Netanyahu made the remark at the start of a meeting with Russian National Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev in Jerusalem.

The prime minister said that Putin is expected to arrive later this year to lay the cornerstone for a memorial to the Siege of Leningrad, and to launch the events of the 75th anniversary of the liberation of the Nazi death camp of Auschwitz.

At the start of their meeting, Netanyahu thanked Patrushev for the increa,上海贵族宝贝论坛Rashid, sing security ties between their countries.

He also reiterated his position that Israel will not allow Iran to establish military bases in Syria, next to the disputed border with Israel. “We will do everything to prevent it from acquiring nuclear weapons,” he added.

Patrushev arrived in Israel on Sunday for a rare tripartite security meeting that will be held on Tuesday with U.S. National Security Adviser John Bolton, Head of Israel’s National Security Council Meir Ben Shabat, and Netanyahu.

The Israeli Prime Minister’s Office said the talks will focus on the future of the operations of Israel, the United States and Russia in relation to Iran and Syria.

Patrushev said the meeting will focus on ensuring a long-term political agreement in Syria. According to the Russian news agency Interfax, he said the talks will include discussion on “positive steps that can be taken” in Syria and other Middle East countries.

Netanyahu and Putin have held regular phone talks and meetings in Moscow as part of the coordination between the two countries’ militaries over their actions in Syria.

Both Russian and Israeli armies coordinate their moves in Syria to avoid clashes. Russian forces fight alongside Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s army and Israel’s air force has carried out hundreds of air strikes, saying the attacks aim at Iranian and Hezbollah targets.

‘No ba 上海龙凤419论坛cktrack’ on Russian missile deal, says Erdogan

Turkish President Recep Tayyip E,上海龙凤419Jenson,rdogan said Tuesday that NATO-member Turkey would take delivery of Russia’s S-400 missile defense system in July – a deal that has created tensions with the US.

“The issue of S-400 is an issue directly related to our sovereignty and we will not backtrack from that,” Erdogan said in a televised speech. “God willing, the delivery of the S-400 will start next month,” he said.

“In order to meet its security needs, Turkey… does not need to get permission, let alone bow to pressure.”

Erdogan has vowed to use his good relations with his US counterpart Donald ,爱上海Jenson,Trump to defuse tensions when they meet on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Osaka, Japan later this week.

The US has given Turkey a deadline of July 31 to drop the purchase of the S-400 system, or face sanctions and removal from the US F-35 fighter jet program.

Turkey has plans to buy 100 F-35s, and has lucrative contracts to build parts of the jet.

Relations with Washington have deteriorated over various issues, including the S-400 deal and US support for a Syrian Kurdish militia viewed as terrorists by Turkey.

“Regardless of whatever sanctions there may be, whatever the messages from America, we’ve bought the S-400,” Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said Monday.

Aussie PM promises “fresh look” at industrial relations after election 上海龙凤419论坛victory

Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison has promised a “fresh look” at trade unions.

Gi,上海千花Osman, ving his first domestic speech on the economy since being re-elected on May 18, Morrison on Monday told the West Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry that he and Christian Porter, the minister for industrial relations, will take a “fresh look” at trade unions.

Morrison’s government has previously attempted to pa,爱上海Elijah,ss laws that would give it the power to deregister unions and union officials who engage in misconduct.

“Another of our priorities is to introduce laws to give greater powers to deal with registered organizations and officials who regularly break the law, prohibit officials who are not fit and proper persons from holding office, and stop the rorting of worker entitlement funds,” he said.

“Any changes in this area must be evidence-based, protect the rights and entitlements of workers and have clear gains for the economy and for working Australians.”

With Parliament set to return from the election in the first week of July, Morrison is under pressure to legislate his signature tax cuts.

Under the 158-billion-Australian dollar (109.8-billion-U.S. dollar) plan, which was the foundation of Morrison’s election campaign, average Australians will pocket an extra up to 1,080 Australia dollars (750.6 U.S. dollars) per year.

However, without the support of the opposition Australian Labor Party (ALP) or Greens, Morrison faces an uphill battle to secure the required support in the Senate.

“Labor’s high-taxing agenda has now been rejected at two successive elections,” Morrison said.

“Our proposed tax relief doesn’t just have a strong political mandate. It has a compelling policy rationale.”

US-initiated trade disputes cast shadow over job mar Jonathanket in California

The US-initiated trade disputes with China had an effect on California and could hit the Golden State further if it dragged on to next year, according to the latest economic forecast from Chapman University released Wednesday.

The country’s economy will be impacted negatively and California, the gateway for trans-Pacific trade, will be hit even harder, the Midyear Updates to the 2019 Economic and Business Review issued by the university’s A. Gary Anderson Center for Economic Research showed.

“Lack of a new trade agreement will have a strong negative impact on the critical transportation and warehousing sector, resulting in an estimated loss of 43,000 jobs in California by the end of 2019, with further decline expected into 2020 and beyond,” Chapman’s research predicted.

The United States in May raised additional tariffs on 200 billion US doll,爱上海Charles, ars’ worth of Chinese imports from 10 percent to 25 percent, and threatened to levy extra duties on more Chinese products.

“Our model points to a 40 billion US dollars decrease in real GDP as a result of the trade war. That would represent a drop of around 0.2 percent in real GDP in 2019,” James Doti, president emeritus of Chapman University, said in a press release emailed to Xinhua. “If the trade war is not resolved, the impact will roughly double that in 2020. The tariffs will also increase inflation, but, at this point, it’s unclear how much.”

Over its 41-year history, the Chapman University Economic and Business Review has been recognized for its accuracy, correctly predicting economic outcomes consistently.

Chapman’s economists maintained their forecast for 2.4 percent expansion in the US economy this year, down from 2.9 percent in 2018, which is still enough to chalk up the longest expansion in US h,上海贵族宝贝论坛Evan, istory, but the California economy, which traditionally outpaces national trends, will instead face a steeper decline that brings it on par with the rest of the nation.

“This is due to trade tension with China and declining job growth in construction, transportation and warehousing, and technology,” said Doti, who is also lead economist on the study. “A trade war impacts the California economy more profoundly than the rest of the nation as the majority of goods, approximately 90 percent, pass through the state’s airports and harbors.”

“Imports from China fell at double digit rates in the first quarter of 2019, a trend likely to continue,” the research revealed.

“The job losses will mount next year as lower exports and imports cut into a wide swath of job sectors like transportation and warehousing, wholesale trade, financial activities and professional and business activities,” Doti added.

He also noted that so far it’s not possible to accurately model what will happen beyond 2019 since there are too many uncertainties.

“What we can do is continuing to monitor certain trends that in the past have indicated the possibility of a recession — slowed growth, job losses and disruptions in the supply chain,” he said.

US toy sector i 上海龙凤419论坛n jeopardy

Bob Grubba, head of a leading US import firm in the model train industry, is worried about Washington’s threat to slap more tariffs on remaining Chinese imports, saying that it would result in family bread-winners in the industry losing their jobs.

Usually, the president and CEO of Broadway Limited Imports visits one of his main suppliers in the Chinese port city of Qingdao each June, to discuss the implementation of this year’s working schedule and make plans for the next year, but this year’s talks are heavily clouded by the proposed additional tariffs.

“Well, if we woke up one day and all of a sudden there’s a tariff, what would we do? It’s a difficult thing for us,” Grubba told Xinhua in a recent interview at his office in Ormond Beach, Florida.

China makes most goods

The US, in May, raised additional tariffs on $200 billion worth of Chinese imports from 10 percent to 25 percent, and threatened to levy extra duties on more Chinese products.

With the threatened tariffs looming on the horizon, toy-makers include Grubba were anxious that the industry would take a big hit as 85 percent of the about 3 billion dollars’ worth of toys sold in the US each year comes from China.

“If we were to have the 25-percent tariff imposed on this product, if we couldn’t find a way around that, it would probably put us out of business,” said Grubba, who has been working with his partners in Qingdao in China’s Shandong Province for almost 20 years.

“This whole industry, almost everything in the industry is manufactured in China,” he said.

Most of these companies have a “profit margin in the range of 30 percent,” and if they were to pay a 25-percent tariff, the left 5 percent would not be enough for them to pay salaries, rent, insurance and other bills, according to Grubba.

“We would have to raise prices. A certain number of people just wouldn’t be able to afford it anymore … That would be a big problem for us,” he said, adding that some of his model trains were already expensive.

The model train industry in the United States is a fairly small business but a lot of companies and people are involved in it, Grubba said.

“Around 500 people work for manufacturers like us, the importers, but that doesn’t include all the hobby stores,” he said.

“There are probably 1,000 hobby stores in the US that sell this type of product. Each of those … maybe … has five to 10 employees, so that’s another 5,000 people. I think those hobby stores are likely to close,” he added.

The idea to relocate production out of China is also ,上海龙凤419论坛Suleyman,unrealistic, Grubba said, noting that it is hard for toy industry businesses to find another country with comparable infrastructure, skilled workers, as well as the research and development capabilities.

“It’s difficult to move a factory (out of China) because our product is very specialized. It took us a long time to train the workers at the factories and train the engineers and to get the quality the way it’s supposed to be,” he said.

“And if we try to move to another country, then you have to develop those expertise all over again,” he said. “That takes a long time (and) a lot of money.”

A 25-percent increase in prices as a result of tariffs or taxes, on those toys will put 300 of 1,100 members of the Toy Association “potentially out of business,” Steve Pasierb, president and CEO of the Trade Association, told local media when the industry held its annual business conference in Minneapolis, Minnesota, last week.

The trade group also added its name to a “Tariffs Hurt the Heartland” coalition letter sent to President Donald Trump and signed by more than 660 companies and trade associations, urging an end to additional tariffs on Chinese imports.

According to The Trade Partnership, a Washington-based trade research and consulting firm, 25-percent tariffs on the remaining Chinese imports would result in the loss of more than 2 million US jobs, add 2,300 dollars in costs for the average American family of four, and reduce the value of US GDP by 1.0 percent, said the letter.

Unaffordable holiday season

Many toy companies started planning for the upcoming holiday season last fall, said Grubba, and everything from product lines to pricing is already set.

“We have products that pre-sold. We’ve already settled the amount of money. And they are to be delivered in the second half of this year,” he said, lamenting the uncertainty emanating from the tariffs saying it has “thrown everything up in the air.”

The proposed tariffs on Chinese imports will also seriously disrupt this year’s upcoming holiday season, which accounts for 50 percent of annual toy sales in the US, according to Rebecca Mond, vice president of the Federal Government Affairs for the Toy Association.

The price of toys could go up by 15 percent and as many as 68,000 out of the more than 691,000 employees in the industry could lose their jobs, Mond told local media, citing a recent study.

“Most people that I talk to don’t want to go back to that (recession). We want to have prosperity and stable times and peace and go back to normal trade,” he said.

US retailers also sounded the alarm, saying that the upcoming holiday season celebrations would be “less affordable” for Americans should the new tariffs on Chinese goods be put into place.

The tariffs will eventually increase the cost of celebrating Christmas and ,上海419论坛Micheal,”disproportionally impact” American families, Douglas Lauer, president and CEO of San Francisco-based ornament store Old World Christmas, said at the public hearings while testifying before the Section 301 Committee under the Office of the US Trade Representative on Friday.

The week-long hearings, which will end June 25, have witnessed hundreds of industry leaders opposing the proposed additional tariffs on Chinese imports.

The average US family spends under 60 dollars per consumer on holiday decorations annually, said a survey from the National Retail Federation.

For Thomas Harman, founder and CEO of privately-held Balsam Brands, the company’s products of concern are pre-lit artificial Christmas trees, which require labor-intensive production and are “almost exclusively made in China.”

More than 95 million US households display a Christmas tree, and four out of five do so with an artificial Christmas tree, according to Harman.

“We consistently hear from our customers that holiday budgets are tight, and we expect that trend to continue in 2019,” Heather Shepardson, CEO of Seasonal and Holiday Company Rauch Industries Inc, said in her testimony.

About three quarters of imported glass Christmas ornaments come from China, Shepardson said. “No other country has the capacity to manufacture the broad array of ornaments currently made in China and certainly not at the price points that most Americans can and are willing to accept.”

A tariff up to 25 percent is “unfathomable to me and my colleagues in our industry,” Shepardson added.

How Chaz does US wield ‘rules-based order’?

When Europe, the US and some neighboring countries chafe at China, they use the term “rules-based order”. So how does the US score on the parameter of a rules-based order?

Studies in international politics show that the international community is an orderly anarchy. Unlike nations, there is no machinery to govern the international community, which, however, is largely in an orderly state.

The basis for supporting the international order is changing though. In general, from the Peace of Westphalia to World War II, a power-based order existed in the world. Based on their national strengths, European powers, which dominated the international order, identified their sphere of influence in the world by using wars or peace treaties. The change in strength was the main cause of wars between great powers.

The international order after WWII turned to a rules-based one which was closely related to the US – because of its superior strength, the US regarded the whole world as its “sphere of influence” and promoted the “rules-based” international order. With the support of other major powers, the US helped establi,上海龙凤419论坛Isaac,sh global political, financial, economic and cultural order by having a leading role in the establishment of global organizations such as the United Nations, the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund, the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT) and UNESCO.

The US vigorously advocated free trade and regarded it as the soul of GATT because it was conducive to expanding the influence of the US-led international rules. The US also had a comparative advantage in industrial goods and the services industry, especially finance. It helped the US take the moral high ground and highlighted the responsibility which comes with leadership of the US.

To support allies, the US endured unilateral trade discrimination from some countries and regions such as Europe, Japan, South Korea as well as the island of Taiwan. This was the primary reason for the low overall tax rate in the US. In a reciprocal gesture and coupled with the need to occupy a large American market, these countries and regions exported goods to the US at lower prices.

With the sharp increase in the number of countries, the growth of developing countries, and competition from some big countries, the impact of the US on some international rules declined. Along with this, the US interest in some international organizations was eroded and Washington is increasingly unwilling to fulfill some international obligations and haggling more and more until it retreats. As a result, the US owes the UN millions in arrears, while it demands its allies to increase military spending.

For an international system that clearly doesn’t bring it many benefits, the US attitude is clear: withdrawing, for instance, the Paris climate agreement, and ending the Bretton Woods system; not participating in but signing other bilateral agreements, a typical instance of which is the International Criminal Court; not participating but interpreting it in a way that benefits itself such as with the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea; requiring special treatment at first and withdrawing when demands were not met, such as with the International Court of Justice; withdrawing from organizations where US influence is decreasing such as UNESCO and the UN Human Rights Council.

Historically, the US has always been pragmatic about the international order. Isolationism that haunted Washington, Monroe Doctrine that prevailed for more than half a century, W,上海贵族宝贝论坛Khalil, oodrow Wilson’s “Fourteen Points” and Franklin Roosevelt’s “Four Freedoms” are important instances.

Incumbent US President Donald Trump is not interested in agendas such as world leadership and values. His policy of “America First” is aimed at returning to the pragmatic tradition in an uninhibited manner, with the aim of compensating the “victims of globalization” in the country and holding back strong competitors.

To achieve this, he selectively uses different policy tools: In the traditional manufacturing sector, he emphasizes “fair trade;” in the services industries such as finance and high-end manufacturing that the US has an advantage, he emphasizes “free trade” and abandons “fair trade;” for US industries that could not gain benefits either through “free competition” or “fair competition,” he does not hesitate to use political and legal means to prop up US companies and suppress rivals. Forcing manufacturing to return to the US, encouraging other countries to invest in the country and persecuting Huawei are the very policies against this backdrop.

In this regard, the US has precedents before Trump. US suppression of Japan includes the Plaza Accord in 1985 and “voluntary quota” for the export of automobiles to the US in 1991. Amid the Asian financial crisis in 1998, the US accused the Malaysian government of adopting capital controls and supporting enterprises. During the 2008 global financial crisis, the US blatantly invested in Wall Street and the auto industry on the grounds of “too big to fail”. Having double standards for international and domestic affairs is a major trait of the US, and both the Democratic and the Republican parties are the same. This is ironic for the superpower that emphasizes “international rules”.

In short, international rules are not neutral. The current rules-based order is dominated by European countries and the US that have their roots in Christian civilization. Countries from other civilizations are only participants and recipients.

Nowadays, emerging economies represented by China have become the main contributors to the global economic growth. They are no longer satisfied with simply “receiving” and also demands contributing and reaping benefits, which is undoubtedly justifiable. However, the existing rules-based order has proven difficult to adapt to this change. Therefore, this order will diverge to meet the needs of cooperation and competition among civilizations.

“The world needs a peaceful China all the time,” say schol Jonathanars

The past 70 years have witnessed a new China transformed into the second largest economy and a very important element for world peace, Turkish analysts have said.

More than 700 million Chinese people have been lifted out of poverty over the past 40 years alone, while China has been contributing annually by more than 30 percent to global growth since the 2008 financial crisis.

China has “achieved a remarkable success for sustainable development, poverty alleviation, and inclusive growth in the last seven decades under the model of socialist economy with Chinese characteristics,” said Selcuk Colakoglu, director of the Turkish Center for Asia Pacific Studies.

“Carrying out this admiring economic growth in the world’s most populous country is another huge success for China,” he said, referring to the Chinese efforts that would be doubled in 2019 to achieve the goal of lifting all rural residents out of poverty and eliminating poverty in all poor regions by 2020.

“Gradual opening of the Chinese domestic market has provided a sustainable development within a stable environment,” said Colakoglu.

As the country’s reform and opening-up since 1978 has changed the destiny of the Chinese nation and influenced the world, China has pledged to open even wider its door to the world in the days ahead.

Kutay Karaca, an academic with Istanbul Aydin University, and Irfan Karsli, head of Ligarba Travel in Istanbul, visited China many times and were impressed with its rapid development.

For Karaca, who called himself “one of the persons who witnessed how China developed,” saw different progress that amazed him every time he revisited China after 1999.

He was again in China in April 2008 before the Beijing Olympics and was surprised to see the millions of people living around the area where the Olympics were to be held obey every rule to be applied to the games.

In Karsli’s opinion, China is also successful in harmonizing the differences that arise from its 56 ethnic groups living together.

“It is very important in a country like China having a huge population in large geography, where the Chinese people live in a very pleasant way,” he said.

Karsli attributed China’s success to the hard work of the Chinese peop,上海龙凤419amantha,le, saying “the growth is happening with hard work and planning, not by chance.”

In the eyes of Colakoglu, a rising China is also a champion of international rules for achieving “order and stability” within the the framework of the United Nations (UN).

“After getting very successful economic development, now China develops strategy and allocates funds for peaceful initiatives for the settlement of various regional and global issues,” he said.

“In this regard, China has become the main sponsor of peace and stability in international order,” he said.

The scholar voiced concern about the rise of populist, ultra-nationalist, xenophobic and anti-globalism tendencies across the globe, calling it “a great challenge to regional and international peace and order.”

In his view,上海贵族宝贝论坛Shania,, populist leaders refuse to obey the established rules by the UN and other international organizations “without considering that this attitude will eventually destroy the current international order.”

“Within this increasing chaotic climate, China, as the second largest economy of the world and a permanent member of the UN Security Council, is still firm in its commitment to the international community and a responsible player for global governance in general,” he said.

“This makes China indispensable for addressing global issues properly,” he stated.

Citing latest UN data, Karaca spoke of China as one of the top contributors to peacekeeping operations in the world.

“China is a very important element for world peace,” said Karsli.

“A strong China is very valuable. China’s international policies and security policies are crucial for world peace in terms of ensuring power balances,” he explained.

“It is very important that China has taken up a position in the face of recent international injustices and irregularities,” he noted. “That’s why I think the world needs a peaceful China all the time.”

Tokyo should give ground to resolve tensio Chazns with Seoul over ‘comfort women’ issue

The G20 summit will take place in Osaka, Japan on June 28 and 29. Tensions between Japan and South Korea have grown recently, amid disputes over issues such as compensation for wartime forced labor. Whether formal or informal talks between Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and South Korean President Moon Jae-in will take place during the summit has caught global attention. But if they cannot hold a bilateral meeting, there may be no solution to the Seoul-Tokyo standoff.

The main constraint on Japan-South Korea ties lies mainly in historical problems, especially regarding “comfort women,” an issue that has long been behind anger directed at Japan by both South Korea and China.

Former South Korean president Park Geun-hye reached an agreement with the Japanese government over the issue in 2015 and Japan made an apology and offered to pay 1 billion yen ($8.3 million) in compensation for the victims. South Korea said it would regard the issue as “finally and irreversibly” settled if Japan kept its promise.

However, the deal was rejected by current President Moon Jae-in. South Korea said in early 2018 that the deal did not meet the victims’ needs and appealed for more from Japan, while Tokyo said the deal should not be revised. This has led to a deadlock.

Japan and South Korea are important allies of the US in N,上海千花Arielle, ortheast Asia, but deepening tensions between the two countries do not have a fundamental impact on US interests in the region. The US is confident that both countries depend on it, especially for security. US President Donald Trump is more concerned about economic ties with both of them and will not meddle too much in their historical disputes. Therefore, during the G20 summit, Trump may not make efforts to coordinate ties between the two Asian allies.

However, Tokyo-Seoul tensions may be eased since the standoff is detrimental for both countries. Japan and South Korea have close economic relations and the political tensions are not positive for trilateral cooperation between China, Japan and South Korea.

Relieving these tensions will mainly depend on Japan’s attitude. If Japan relents, it will be easy to reach a solution. But currently, Japan is not giving any ground on this issue, which could hinder the further development of Japan-South Korea ties.

Park’s “comfort women” agreement is unpopular among the public in South Korea. Park is seen as having betrayed these wartime victims by signing the deal with Japan as she failed to adequately listen to their voices. Therefore, given the strength of domestic public opinion, the Moon administration will not easily compromise with Toky,上海贵族宝贝论坛Hannah,o.

However, at present, it will be hard for Japan to make concessions, as Tokyo insists the issue has been settled with the previous South Korean government.

Another reason might be that it does not attach much importance to its ties with Seoul and somewhat looks down on its neighbor, making the row harder to resolve.

It is noticeable that China also has a dispute with Japan regarding the “comfort women” issue. The current Tokyo-Seoul ties may work as a reminder for Japan that if it fails to address historical issues, Beijing-Tokyo ties could also be affected.

Transgender peo Jonathanple find a home on YouTube but challenges remain

New York (CNN Business)For a trans person, YouTube can be an extremely valuable resource. It’s a place where they can find — and share — personal stories of gender transitions, identity struggles and journeys through surgeries and hormone treatments.

The Google-owned (GOOG) video platform has ignited a community of social media stars, known as creators, making videos about virtually everything, from gadget reviews and beauty tutorials to topics relevant to LGBTQ people. Trans creator Reed Wetmore said YouTube has been a “lifeline” for the trans community.

“Making my videos and watching other creators on YouTube gave me strength. Seeing other trans men on YouTube being so much farther in their journeys gave me a lot of hope,” he told CNN Business. “When some family and friends didn’t react the way I hoped they would [to me coming out], I went back to YouTube and found some solace and comfort there in the community.”

Nikita Dragun said her YouTube channel went viral in 2015 after she posted a video coming out as trans. Dragun continued to document her trans journey, including surgeries, as well as sharing beauty tutorials. She now has over 2 million subscribers and recently launched her own makeup line, Dragun Beauty.

“If I could’ve seen someone like me years ago, I would’ve wanted to know who I could’ve become,” she told CNN Business. “I think I owe it to myself and other people to educate them.”

But some trans creators also have frustrations with the platform’s policies on restricting content. In recent interviews with CNN Business, more than half a dozen trans creators shared their experiences with YouTube and many expressed concern that some of their trans-related content, such as sexual education videos, has been limited from making money from ads or was age restricted. Many said they’re frustrated with YouTube’s lack of transparency around why their videos are being demonetized.

Creators can apply to make money from ads that run on their videos through the YouTube Partner Program. Under YouTube’s “advertiser-friendly” guidelines, the company says content that “features sex toys, sexual devices, or explicit conversation about sex may also not be suitable for advertising, with limited exceptions for non-graphic sexual education videos.” The policy does not elaborate on what “non-graphic” sex ed means. “We’re proud of the incredible LGBTQ+ voices on our platform and take concerns like these very seriously,” a YouTube spokesperson told CNN Business. “All content that shows ads on YouTube is subject to our Advertiser-Friendly Content Guidelines, and discussion of sexual education, while welcome on the platform, may not always be suitable for ads. That’s why we offer creators on YouTube a variety of ways to monetize their content outside of advertising, including memberships, Super Chat and merchandise.”Ads are typically the most common way creators make money on YouTube. Creators with smaller followings may not be eligible to tap into some of YouTube’s other income opportunities. For example, a creator must have more than 30,000 subscribers to have channel memberships, while the requirement is over 1,000 subscribers for making money from ads.

YouTube’s policies sometimes contain exceptions and gray areas — often with limited information around how those guidelines are enforced. For a long-marginalized group like the trans community, it can be especially frustrating not to specifically know why some of their content is being restricted.

The YouTube spokesperson also said the company is working on ways to improve communications with creators so that there is more clarity on how its content reviewers evaluate their videos.

Sexual education videos

Ash Hardell, a trans creator who posts videos focusing on queer and trans issues, said young people are in a “vulnerable” position when they’re not out.

“They need a safe, private place to learn this information,” said Hardell. That’s where YouTube comes in.

Hardell is also concerned about YouTube age-restricting sex ed videos. Videos can be age-restricted because of things like vulgar language, violence, nudity and sexually suggestive content. When videos are age-restricted, they can’t be monetized or seen by people under age 18.

Hardell, whose preferred pronouns are they/their, works with their wife Grace on the channel. They said YouTube is an important source of income for the pair. When their videos are demonetized and age-restricted, they said that can impact their earnings and how many views they get. When a video is age-restricted, it isn’t shown in certain sections of YouTube, and can be harder to find.

“For YouTube to age restrict a video, it cuts [young people] off from important education,” Hardell said.

In one instance, YouTube deemed Hardell’s video focused on a practice called packing — padding pants or underwear to make it look like the person has a penis — “not suitable” for most advertisers. Some trans men and non-binary people use packing to feel more comfortable or confident with their identity. Hardell also shows images of commercial packers, and discusses sexual topics and terms.

YouTube declined to comment about why specific videos were only showing limited ads. But the YouTube spokesperson said if sexual education videos include realistic depictions of genitalia, they are typically considered graphic and will likely only show limited ads.

The company isn’t always transparent about why a video is demonetized, which can leave creators left guessing. For example, some creators told CNN Business that YouTube told them they violated the company’s “Community Guidelines,” but wouldn’t specify which one. Darnell Motley, lead researcher for LGBTQ health at the University of Chicago’s Ci3 initiative, is concerned that demonetization could discourage trans creators from continuing their work on the platform. It takes time to create content — whether it’s for YouTube, Instagram or other platforms — and creators often want to monetize those efforts and make social media their main career.

Motley also said there is already a lack of comprehensive sexual education for trans people, especially in traditional school settings.

“There are so few avenues [for trans people] to learn about sex,” he said. “So YouTube really becomes a key space for folks to access information that is community vetted but also that is non-stigmatizing and comes out of experience versus conjecture or some sort of judgment.”

Motley said what “non-graphic” sex education means should be better defined. He thinks YouTube should partner with health educators to discuss this and how the platform can balance the need for that content.

“In order to do sex ed, you have to talk about sex. It’s critical to the work,” he said. “Trans youth are trying to learn about sexual health and transitions. It can’t be vague. It has to delve into some of the details.”

Zil Goldstein, associate medical director for trans and gender non-binary care at Callen-Lorde Community Health Center, said there are higher rates of HIV and sexually-transmitted infections in trans people due to,上海龙凤419Davey, the lack of available sex ed resources.

“YouTube lets people get more detailed information and find out more about how to transition, and ways to live a healthy life,” she said. “People can find someone who’s like them [on YouTube] and feel less alone.”

Goldstein said trans creators could consider potentially working with illustrators to create non-graphic images for sex ed videos or link to web pages that have pictures of packers or other sexual prosthetics people may need.

Sharing their journey

Ty Turner, a trans creator, said YouTube was where he learned “what being trans was in the first place.”

“[YouTube] taught me almost everything I knew about the changes of testosterone, different people’s transitions and what I could expect socially and physically,” he said. “It was a major source of education and learning for me.”

Turner then began posting his own YouTube videos about his transition and experience.

However, some of his videos have been limited from making money from ads in recent years. For example, his video review of an STP product — short for “stand to pee” — was deemed not suitable for most advertising by YouTube. An STP device allows trans men to use urinals and can help relieve some of their anxiety around using the restroom.

In order to boost his earnings, he’s started working with brands directly on sponsored YouTube videos.

“I get that YouTube is a business, and their priority is to make money and make their advertisers money, but their creators are the people who are the ones putting in the work, and I think some transparency and some solid feedback would be phenomenal,” Turner said. “I would love to have some clarity on what the issue is.”

Aaron Ansuini, a trans creator who discusses disability, mental health and art on his YouTube channel, said posting on the platform has helped his self-esteem and confidence.

“I’m on the autism spectrum. It’s helped me break through a couple of those barriers and work through difficulty communicating with others,” Ansuini said.

“Building a community online is a huge game changer for people who are queer or disabled,” he added. “If you live in a small town or in a not very accepting town, you still have access to your community and your people.”

But Ansuini has also had his videos deemed not suitable for most advertisers when he’s discussed trans-related topics, including a video from April about what relationships and intimacy are like for someone who is disabled, asexual and trans.

After CNN Business inquired about the video, it became fully able to monetize again.

Last year, Ansuini’s channel received a “strike” for his video showing how to inject testosterone. (If a creator gets three strikes within 90 days, their channel will be permanently deleted from YouTube). The strike was later removed by YouTube.

“My priority isn’t making money off my videos, but it’s more about the principle,” Ansuini said. “It sends a lot of messages, like ‘you’re,爱上海Bahar, not advertiser-friendly’, or ‘being queer is something that is explicit or something that only adults can be.'”

CNN Business also asked YouTube about trans creator Alex Bertie’s video recapping his three-year anniversary on testosterone, which wasn’t showing ads. After CNN Business reached out, YouTube restored ads to the video.

According to YouTube, its automated ads systems run several scans to decide if a video meets its guidelines for advertising. A YouTube spokesperson said creators can go through an appeals process when they disagree with the company’s decision. YouTube also says its systems sometimes get it wrong when deciding which videos can show ads.

Previous challenges

This isn’t the first time tensions between YouTube and the LGBTQ community have surfaced around content decisions.

In 2017, YouTube’s family-friendly “Restricted Mode” blocked some videos by gay, bisexual and trans creators. At the time, YouTube said the aim of Restricted Mode was to “filter out mature content for the tiny subset of users who want a more limited experience. LGBTQ+ videos are available in Restricted Mode, but videos that discuss more sensitive issues may not be.” YouTube also admitted some of the videos created by the LGBTQ community were mistakenly filtered out. Last year, some LGBTQ YouTubers began speaking out about their videos being age-restricted and demonetized. A few of them said that in some cases, anti-LGBTQ ads ran on some of their videos, although creators told CNN Business the ad issue appears to be resolved now. Trans YouTuber Kat Blaque — who primarily discusses social justice issues and being a black woman in her videos — believes creators on the platform, in general, need to better understand how monetization on YouTube works and the rules around it.

“YouTube went from being a place where people made videos for fun to a place where people made videos for money,” she said. “I’m not saying people who have been demonetized shouldn’t be upset about that — they absolutely should — but at the same time these are the policies laid out for being able to monetize your videos.”

“Being monetized is a blessing, it’s not a guarantee,” Blaque added.

Dog the Bounty Hunterrefuses to give up hope as his wifeBeth Chapman remains in a medically induced coma.

In his first Twitter post since revealingher hospitalizationover the weekend, Dog—bornDuane Chapman—shared a gut wrenching, close-up photo ofBeth’shand while she lays in bed.

“You all know how she is about HER NAILS !!” he captioned the picture, which captured her signature bedazzled manicure. The snap also showed the IV in her hand and medical bands around her wrist.

The 51-year-old,爱上海Byron,, who is battling throat cancer, wasadmitted tothe ICU atQueen’s Medical Center in Honolulu on Saturday.”Please say your prayers for Beth right now,” Dog tweeted on Saturday. “Thank you love you.”

Thefamily’s agent confirmed to E! News that she is in a coma. “Beth is one of the strongest people I’ve ever known, and if anyone can beat this, it’s her,” the agent said in a statement. “No matter what happens, she and the family have placed all of their hope, faith, and trust in God. After being in remission for more than a year, Beth learned hercancer had returned in November 2018. She was rushed to a Los Angeles hospital, where she underwent emergency surgery to remove a tumor that had reportedly been obstructing her breathing. The following month, Dog revealed that the cancer had spread through her throat and lungsand is “incurable.”

Beth faced another health scare inApril and was hospitalized due to an accumulation of fluid in her lungs.

Online knitting site Jassirbans posts supporting Trump

A niche social media website devoted to knitting is banning posts supporting President Donald Trump, claiming the content amounts to advocating for white supremacy.

“We cannot provide a space that is inclusive of all and also allow support for open white supremacy,” the website Ravelry announced on Sunday. “Support of the Trump administration is undeniably support for white supremacy.”

Ravelry, which has 8 million members, said the ban applies to forum posts, user profiles, and knitting projects, including patterns shared over the website. Trump supporters are still welcome on the platform, “you just can’t talk about it here,” the service said.

“We are definitely not banning conservative politics. Hate groups and intol,上海龙凤论坛Lennon, erance are different from other types of political positions,” Ravelry explains in its new policy.

More From PCmag

The site was founded in 2007 and has become a platform where people can share and sell their yarn-made projects. However, knitting can get quite political. Past projects on the Ravelry site include woven hats that say “Trump 2020,” “USA MAGA,” and “Keep America Trump,” all of which have been deleted.

Ravelry is refraining from banning users for past Trump support. Nor will it delete anyone’s knitting projects from the site. “If you are permanently banned from Ravelry, you will still be able to access any patterns that you purchased. Also, we will make sure that you receive a copy of your data,” it said.

The ban comes as the larger social media platforms try to balance free spee,爱上海Terry,ch against abuse. Democrats argue the services have done too little to stop hate speech and misinformation while conservatives accuse the same platforms of censoring political opinions.

Ravelry says its “not endorsing the Democrats nor banning Republicans.” It also warns users against antagonizing conservative members on the site. Ravelry added that its new “no-Trump” policy was taken from RPG.net, a forum for role-playing games, which in October banned posts supporting Trump.

Trump Loves Watching ‘Talented’ US Women’s Soccer 上海贵族宝贝论坛Team — But Not Co-Captain’s National Anthem Protests

President Donald Trump spoke out about the women’s soccer team during an interview with The ,上海贵族宝贝论坛Charles,Hill on Monday.

The U.S. women’s soccer co-captain Megan Rapinoe decided to protest the national anthem during the Women’s World Cup, kneeling as a “walking protest.” When the president was asked about whether the action was appropriate in an interview, he was very firm in his answer.

“No. I don’t think so,” said Trump.

The president claimed that while he disapproved of the action, he enjoyed watching the team play.

“I love watching women’s soccer,” Trump said to The Hill. “They’re really talented.”

He was also asked about the pay gap, due to the women’s team suing U.S. Soccer for discrimination. The president claimed that there are many factors that go into an athlete’s pay.

“I think a lot of it also has to do with the economics.I mean who draws more, where is the money coming in. I know that when you have the great stars like [Portugal’s Cristiano] Ronaldo and some of these stars … that get paid a lot of money, but they draw hundreds of thousands of people.”

Although he shared his personal opinion, Trump claimed that he hadn’t taken an official position yet and would learn more about the issue.

“But I haven’t taken a position on that at all,” said Trump. “I’d have to look at it.”

As IJR Red reported, Trump has been very outspoken about his disapproval of national anthem protests after many NFL players began to kneel in protest of police brutality.

“Be happy, be cool! A football game, that fans are paying soooo much money to watch and enjoy, is no place to protest,” Trump tweeted last year. “Most of that money goes to the players anyway. Find another way to protest. Stand proudly for your National Anthem or be Suspended Without Pay!”

However, it does not seem likely that Rapinoewill face any consequences for kneeling during the anthem.

US new-home sales fell 7 Trianno.8% in May

WASHINGTON (AP) — Sales of new U.S. homes slumped 7.8% in May, as sales plunged in the pricier Northeastern and Western markets.

The Commerce Department said Tuesday that new homes sold at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 626,000 in May, down from 679,000 in April. During the first five months of the year, purchases of new homes have fallen 3.7% compared to the same period in 2018.

Lower mortgage rates and a healthy job market have yet to unleash more home-buying. Sales of new homes plummeted 35.9% in the West and 17.6% in the Northeast. New-home sales rose 4.9% in the South and 6.3% in the Midwest, whic,爱上海Rashid,h are generally more affordable markets.

The median sales price of a new home fell 2.7% from a year ago to $308,000.

Still, there are si,上海龙凤论坛Emma, gns that sales could recover.

Sales of existing homes — which are the bulk of the market — rebounded in May. They increased 2.5% to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 5.34 million, evidence that lower mortgage rates might ultimately improve buying.

Indi 上海贵族宝贝论坛ana school fires gay teacher days after nearby school refused

Controversy over teacher’s same-sex marriage

Indianapolis, Indiana—The Indianapolis archbishop has forced a Catholic high school to fire a gay teacher, just days after another school in the city defied a similar order despite church officials saying they would no longer recognize it as Catholic. The contrasting responses by Cathedral High School and Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory School to orders by the Indianapolis Archdiocese demonstrate they ways LGBT Catholics are experiencing workplace pressure without federal laws ensuring nationwide nondiscrimination protections.

Cathedral High School announced Sunday that it’s terminating the teacher’s contract to avoid a split with the archdiocese. Leaders of Cathedral High School, a private school affiliated with the Brothers of the Holy Cross religious order, said in aletter on the school’s websitethat disobeying Archbishop Charles Thompson would cost the school its nonprofit status and its ability to have Mass celebrated on campus.

“Archbishop Thompson made it clear that Cathedral’s continued employment of a teacher in a public, same-sex marriage would result in our forfeiting our Catholic identity due to our employment of an individual living in contradiction to Catholic teaching on marriage,” the school statement said.

This is the third Indianapolis Catholic high school that’s faced pressure from Thompson over employees in same-sex marriages since he became archbishop in July 2017. CBS News reported earlier this month that Archdiocesan-operated Indianapolis Roncalli High School has fired or suspended two female guidance counselors in the past year because they’re both in same-sex marriages. Both women have filed federal employment discrimination complaints.

On Friday, Thompson issued a decree againstBrebeuf Jesuit Preparatory Schoolbecause it employed a teacher in a same-sex marriage. Brebeuf leaders said the teacher was a “longtime valued employee” who didn’t teach religion. The archdiocese maintained that it considers all teachers, guidance counselors and school administrators to be ministers who must follow church teaching.

CBS News reported earlier in June a statement from the Very Rev. Brian Paulson, who heads the Midwest Province of Jesuits, who said that “Brebeuf’s administration and Board of Trustees have determined that following the Archdiocese’s directive would not only violate their informed conscience on this particular matter, but also would set a concerning precedent for future interference in the school’s operations and other matters.”

Indiana is among about 30 states without state nondiscrimination laws protecting LGBT people, according to the gay-rights group Human Rights Campaign. A federal bill for such nationwide nondiscrimination protections passed the House of Representatives in May but appears doomed in the U.S. Senate because of Republican opposition.

New Ways Ministry, a Maryland-based advocacy group for LGBT Catholics, counts nearly 100 employees at Catholic institutions who’ve lost jobs because of sexual or,上海千花Darcy, ientation issues across the country in the past decades.

Cathedral administrators sai,上海龙凤论坛Byron,d Sunday that its decision to dismiss a gay teacher was “agonizing” but one that was necessary for the 1,100-student school. Cathedral, like Brebeuf, had been in talks with the archdiocese about the teachers for nearly two years. Neither school has identified the teachers involved.

The Cathedral letter doesn’t defend Thompson’s decision, saying it hopes the action does not “dishearten Cathedral’s young people.” The actions have sparked online petitions and social media debate.

The archdiocese said in a statement Monday that all Catholic schools have been directed to state in employment contracts that all employees must support church teachings.

“This issue is not about sexual orientation; rather, it is about our expectation that all personnel inside a Catholic school — who are ministers of the faith — abide by all Church teachings,” the statement said. “If and when a minister of the faith is publicly not doing so, the Church calls us to help the individual strive to live a life in accordance with Catholic teaching.”

Brebeuf is operated by the Midwest Province of Jesuits, independently of the archdiocese. Despite Thompson’s decree, Brebeuf’s principal says it will continue to call itself an “independent Jesuit Catholic school.”
